Released in late 2014 by DYP Records, Silverback is the second solo release by David Young. With ten original songs, the album paints a lush tapestry of sound that is heavily laced with pop, disco, funk, blues and Texas Soul.
Recorded at Reeves Audio in Chicago, IL and mastered by Gene Grimaldi in Los Angeles the album marks a step away from Young's signature jazz sound and is a toe-tapping, head bobbing tour de force into contemporary songwriting.
Executive Produced by Young, Silverback features James Robinson (vocal), David Young (vocal/trumpet), Dennis Winslett (saxophone), Justin Dillard (keyboards), Patrick Mulcahy (bass), Steve Ramsdell (guitar) and Marcus Evans (drums).
Appassionata, released in 2001 (Big Chicago Records) is Young's critically-acclaimed debut album. Lauded by the Chicago Tribune as one of the top jazz albums of 2001, Appassionata received extensive national airplay and reached the Billboard heatseekers chart.
The album received 3.5 of 5 stars in Downbeat Magazine which called the album by then 21 year old "Saavy!"
Appassionata features nine original songs penned by Young. David Young (trumpet), Dennis Winslett (saxophone), Dan Cray (piano), Hans Sturm (bass), and Kobie Watkins (drums).
